John Cowie is a primary school located in Makoni district which is in Manicaland province in Zimbabwe. John Cowie is one of the top best primary schools in Makoni district, Manicaland province, Zimbabwe in terms of Academic perfomance, standards, infrastructure, environment, projects, just to mention a few.

The school is officially registered by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (MoPSE) and has been in existence for more than a century now.

The John Cowie School is currently led by the dynamic and tirelessly dedicated Mrs. Chanyawo, a vibrant and hardworking lady who assumed the role of head in 2024. Her arrival marked a smooth transition following the departure of the esteemed veteran headmaster, Sir Garikai S. Nyawo, whose remarkable contributions and enduring legacy continue to shape the institution . During his tenure, Sir Nyawo was instrumental in fostering a culture of excellence, implementing innovative educational programs, and building strong community ties that have left an indelible mark on the school. His visionary leadership not only elevated academic standards but also emphasized holistic student development, ensuring that his influence remains a guiding force for the school's ongoing success. Under Mrs. Chanyawo's stewardship, the school operates with renewed energy and a clear sense of purpose, as she collaborates closely with a highly effective and objective School Development Association (SDA) committee. This committee, which plays a pivotal role in strategic planning, resource allocation, and community engagement, is currently chaired by Mr. Munyaradzi Manyengawana. Mr. Manyengawana brings a wealth of experience and deep-rooted connection to the school, having served as a former student, a dedicated teacher, and even the basketball coach at John Cowie.
